Tuesday is World AIDS Day. The theme this year is Think Positive: Rethink HIV. The National AIDS Trust is asking people to share facts that will tackle stigma and dispel myths. Did you know that if someone diagnosed with HIV is on effective treatment they are not infectious and they have a normal life expectancy? Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the Don’t Die of Ignorance campaign; research and treatment has come a long way in three decades but there’s still more to do.

These last three years have been the first time that I haven’t been actively involved in World Aids Day. Spreading knowledge and busting myths is still vital and needed now as much as ever. I am so glad to see this image.

It’s fantastic how far medicine has come with regards to this disease and if anything will make people sit up and take notice of the campaign this lovely image certainly will.

This is a stunning shot, the words really pop out of the image and I think the HIV message is one that has in recent times got a bit lost among the other STI’s and that is a shame because it is still so full of misinformation and stigma

You’re absolutely right. So many factors in whether a treatment is effective, like nutrition, adhering to timings etc. The difference you see in response to treatment in ‘the west’ compared to sub Sahara Africa where there is little food security is marked. This is a gorgeous, bright, hopeful image. (The red lipstick on your skin is amazingly brilliant and of course perfect for the theme).
There is still much work to be done, but isn’t it miraculous how far we’ve come in a relatively short time? Certainly we have far to go, but it gives me hope.

Love this but so much more to do! Effective treatment is still a dream for so many. And the U.K. is one of the few countries in the world not to have an anti HIV strategy ! The arrogance of the govt is sickening on this.
